"DREAM" by Daisy Gill: A Colourful Sonic Exploration of the Subconscious

Liverpool's genre-challenging songstress Daisy Gill dives into the complex space of sleep paralysis and lucid dreaming with her latest single, "Dream." This electronic pop number is self-produced, electrifying, and exhilarating, with throbbing synths, dizzying textures, and a lushness that perfectly sets up the experience of the emotionally rich vocal performance as Gill spits lyrics paying homage to the strange pleasure of being suspended between wakefulness and sleep.

Written and co-produced with Thomas Paul Jones of Tigerblind, this is a significant evolution in Gill's sound, where vintage pop flourishes are exchanged for more cinematic, immersive electronics, while still keeping Gill's emotional sonority intact. Upon the first chorus drop (around 0:45), the listener is slowly immersed in a sonic trance, where shimmering synths and bubbling basslines ring out like echoes of a dream.

What makes “Dream” so unique is the closeness of the lyrics. Gill writes from personal experience with lucid dreams: dreams were so lucid that they felt more explicit than reality. “It’s a track about being trapped halfway between fear and fantasy,” she says. 

That tension drives the track, especially the bridge (about 2:20), when it builds up to an explosion of emotion before descending back into introspection. “Dream” is not a song, but an experience; introspective, immersive, and incredibly listenable.
