Patrick Hynes Releases Baby's High Again: A Raw Take on Love, Loss

Scottish singer-songwriter Patrick Hynes just published his latest single, "Baby's High Again." This new release is the second single of the "Midnight Country Music" campaign, which follows his initial single, "Wild Country." "Baby's High Again" examines the reality of love through the lens of drug abuse, tapping into our instinctual ties to heartbreak and loss.

Produced by Johnny Madden and mastered by Felix Davis at Metropolis Studios in London, "Baby's High Again" has a haunting quality through a dreamy palette of lustful melodies against dark aesthetics. Hynes describes the song as a representation of "the early twilight moments of a comatose state that parenthesizes love and drug addiction," moments that hang in transition between elation and inevitable loss. The profound cinematic quality of the song draws reference points to Tom Petty and Orville Peck, with classic Americana elements embedded with contemporary era twists.

Hynes's musical story is deeply personal, shaped by being raised in a Scottish factory town and summers in Texas. After getting an old guitar from his Uncle Jeff, Hynes began writing songs. When his Uncle Jeff was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Hynes went back to Keller, Texas, to finish the songs he had started with Jeff. This significant emotional experience eventually birthed his "Midnight Country Music" style. A blend of country music, pop music, and film trailer soundscape ingenuity.

Following his sold-out debut at Glasgow’s McChuills, Hynes will be performing at the legendary King Tuts Wah Wah Hut on June 14, 2025. He has also drafted a Scottish tour, where he will be playing in Inverness, Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Airdrie, and Edinburgh; effortlessly incorporating his emotional, raw performances with an overwhelming, lush sonic landscape.
