Public Health produces a progressive reflection with "Painless"
Public Health, Alex Moxam's project, returns with "Painless," a contemplative but driving single. Public Health has a penchant for creating music that meets at the intersection of post-punk sensibilities fused with fuzzy guitar distortion. The music is moody and expansive yet self-reflective. In addition to Moxam, Matt Paparone plays both lead guitar and bass, while also contributing to writing the song. "Painless" evokes a balance between nostalgia and optimism thematically.
"Painless" is largely based on warm, granty guitar work and some type of rhythmic pulse that thematically dealt with the feeling of jumping or diving into something new without the burden of the past. Moxam's delivery of lyrics was present and unencumbered, while proud but vulnerable. The production feels rich and layered, allowing for each note to breathe while no low-end really ever drops out of the raw energy exerted.
Public Health recently opened for Wild Nothing and JW Francis, and successfully channeled the vibrant, atmospheric weight of their recordings in their live performance.
Public Health invites consideration in the style of fellow artists like Alex G, Arthur Russell, and Neil Young, while also really going someplace that feels nostalgic but progressive.
