Adam Nelson's Metal Mario: An Instrumental Love Letter to 8-bit Video Game Music EP

On Metal Mario, Adam Nelson from Columbia Falls, United States, combines his two great loves, video games and music, into a three-track love letter to video game music. This Cover EP takes classic songs from Mario video game titles and flips them as melodic metal; it is something truly nostalgic and new.

Completely recorded and produced in the little but hugely powerful home studio he has built, Metal Mario showcases Nelson's extensive understanding of sound design, guitar skills, and digital production. The EP opens with Super Mario Bros Metal Theme, a blistering version of the in-game theme, replacing the pixelated plinks with gut-shredding riffs, twinkling bells, and double-kick drums. Next is Super Mario Bros 2 Metal Theme, featuring darker tones and infinite layers of guitars that create tension while holding awe, it re-creates the same vibe as going deep down the underground Mario levels.

Finally, it is Super Mario Land Metal Theme, which is hitting; it can stop air guitar solos, guy, shredder, and joyous; it brings, to a conclusion, a mixed sense of triumph that his signature melodies give the old school platformers a bouncing brilliance and life.

This isn't just a metal project; it is a sincere homage to all the childhood memories of so many gamers, recreated in bright colour with genuine skill and emotion. Metal Mario is a ride worth the trip, whether you are a retro gamer, a metalhead, or an intersection of the two.
