Flora Lin's “Lion Pt. 2”: A Sweetly Haunting Tribute to Duty and Love
Belgium's Flora Lin returns with “Lion Pt. 2,” a crushingly expressive collaboration with Recreational Noise from Pennsylvania. The song comes from their interesting EP entitled Fauna, and is a visceral amalgamation of shoegaze ambience, underpinned by post-rock minimalism, that tells a raw and yet equal story of giving up one's belief system to protect and empower those we love.
“Lion Pt. 2” is released as a quietly devastating song. It conveys the fragile emotion and fierce love of an overwhelming lyric; “When I give you my love, I want it to become your strongest weapon.” Lin's soft, yet assertive voice drifts through layers of ambience, fingering buzzing synths to engulf us in an intimate sort of emotional cinematism. Her delivery is not just a performance, but a confession, a release, a reckoning.
The song rounds out the EP Fauna, a conceptual narrative based on a character who learns to adapt and survive as a product of their world as it translates into conflict.
As the conclusion to the narrator and complex tale of “Lion Pt. 2”, what happens when everything is given to us by those we will trust, those who will protect us?
