Higher Selves Playdate Chase Radiant “Good Dreams” on Forthcoming Album The New Apocalyptic
Higher Selves Playdate, a Fairfax, Virginia-based art-pop duo comprised of Jessica (artist and professor) and Steve (a non-profit strategist, and lead guitarist of Folklore) is bringing "Good Dreams," a glowing new single from their debut eight-song album, The New Apocalyptic (available July 30), to the indie music landscape. The juxtaposition of synth-pop glimmer and fuzz-encrusted guitars helps shape the track, which unfurls like an after-hours dance party where The Cure's ghostly romanticism meets the catchy lyricism of The B-52s.
Much of "Good Dreams" was created in late-night college-all-nighters and lunchtime riffing, balancing a sense of playful optimism with an underlying worry. Steve's melodic guitar lines parade through swells of analog synths, combining a sound that feels both nostalgic and speculative.
"Good Dreams" pushes back against the modern dread, war, division, and alienation we cannot escape, and chooses radical joy instead. It is a manifesto for improvised utopias: art as resistance, love as politics, and play as survival. Producer-engineer team of Mike Byer and Eva Gomez wrap the mix in a warm, cassette-deck glow, and allow the transitions of the hooks to resonate after the last choruses have come to a close.
