"Aunque sea por una noche (If it's only for one night)" by Michellar featuring Jiji: A Loving Recognition for Impermanence and Heritage
In her new single "Aunque sea por una noche (If it's only for one night)", San Francisco-based artist Michellar is taking a new musical step by creating a Spanish ballad that is both personal and universal. Michellar partnered with vocalist Jiji Picazo and producer Lloyd Miller (Spirit Song Studios, Austin) to write and record the track, where she pulled from her Spanish-Filipino roots and childhood experiences, evoking songs such as "Bésame Mucho" referencing the emotional richness and complexity of a brief passionate moment.
This single was Michellar's first experience in writing a song in Spanish, which began as an English song and was later translated via a loving studio exchange with Jiji Picazo. The connection between Michellar and Jiji is palpable, and it is undeniable that both of their legacies and backgrounds are embedded in every lyric, harmony, and musical note of the song. The listener is pulled into a warm, soft world of wistfulness, where love - however fleeting - is a moment that one won't forget.
With the unmistakable lineage of Latin romanticism and Michellar's nostalgia, "Aunque sea por una noche" is more than a love song; it is a crossing point for cultures, generations, and the timeless gift of music.
While Michellar has plans for new releases, possibly with Filipino songs, this piece represents a welcoming introduction into a place that feels like home.
