Marcus Smith Dives into Love and Art with Soulful New Single “Permeate”

Cleveland-based hip-hop artist Marcus Smith presents a wonderfully personal and art-driven single, “Permeate.” “Permeate” is a rare love song inside of rap today and is an inspiring personal love letter to both his wife and his lifelong relationship with visual art. The song is produced with FLX from Inverness, UK, and features the emotionally touching addition of Atlanta artist Bedrooms, making “Permeate” cross musical and emotional borders.

The beat was randomly shared on a Discord server hosted by Asher Roth, and Marcus was taken back to when he used to roam the halls of the Cleveland Museum of Art.

This is actually where the music video ended up being filmed. The song lies somewhere between mellow beats, Marcus’s emotionally charged bars that characterize what love feels like, and the warmth of a melodic hook-creating an auditory experience that truly feels like being on a quiet walk through timeless gallery halls.

“There was no way for me to know I could love this much,” Marcus sings in the chorus of the song, and this line says everything about the song in terms of its sincerity.

The song was recorded in three cities, Cleveland, Atlanta, and Inverness, and serves as proof of the collaborative powers associated with distance, and ultimately, how strong feelings will always remain around in music, regardless.
