Dax's "Man I Used To Be": A Raw Interpretation of Growth and Clarity
This summer, Wichita-born artist Dax came forth with an incredibly explosive new single, "Man I Used To Be", a song that acts as a clear watershed moment in how Dax expresses himself as both a musician and person. Dax created the new song in collaboration with Nashville-based producer Jimmy Robbins, who was able to bring a clean yet organic sound to Dax's very raw and emotional performance.
"Man I Used To Be" reiterates Dax's transformation. It came out of a very raw six months of sobriety. Six months where he removed almost everything that was distracting him from being able to look at himself. Dax promised himself he would not release new music in 2025 until he could look at himself. Given the early emission of "Man I Used To Be", we can now trust that Dax is achieving that milestone.
The lyrics in the song contain the highest number of hot-taking sentiments that iterate his resilience, his faith, and enduring the pain of letting go of an old self and living with a new, intentional self. Dax is also very adamant about describing the recording process as spiritual, that he could "feel God in the room," which only adds to the emotional weight of the record.
With the forthcoming “Lonely Dirt Road Tour” set to begin at the end of October, audiences should get ready for this single to be part of Dax's live performance routine. Dax stays true to his tagline, “Music for the people, spread by the people,” and his latest release represents a song, but it feels like a song that represents never giving up and starting over.
