HEDDLU Unveils Tramor: An Album of Resilience and Renewal
Cardiff-based artist HEDDLU, the creative project of Rhodri Daniel, has released his incredibly evocative second album, Tramor, a deeply personal suite of 11 songs. HEDDLU has had a remarkable journey since he was a founding member of the Welsh breakout band Estrons, a journey that has seen numerous achievements and great hardships. Daniel emerged from Estrons' disbanding in 2019, but was forced into silence when he had developed serious hearing loss, tinnitus, and sensitivity to sound conditions that affected his ability to perform.
However, from this came HEDDLU, which Daniel describes as a "peace-force" as the Welsh meaning of HEDDLU means peace. Following his acclaimed debut album, Cantref, which he wrote while taking a 900-mile trek on the Wales Coastal Path, Daniel's second album, Tramor, became the essence of his recovery and resilience. Tramor in Welsh means Overseas, and is a metaphor for the emotional adventure across grief, estrangement, trauma, and then the return to the tenuous realisation of hope.
Listeners are taken on a journey through an intimate yet fluid world with frequent spikes in volatile elements. Each song feels like an instant of survival with lush lyricism and innovative instrumentation that comes from Daniel's desire to go beyond his limitations.
With Tramor, HEDDLU not only distills his voice but offers an album that speaks to perseverance, adaptability, and music's potential to heal itself.
