Hovercraft Resurrects Lost Genius Through Artificial Intelligence In Shaken Not Stirred Album
Grimsby’s former indie wonder Hovercraft have done something magical with their new album, Shaken Not Stirred, a reincarnation of nine new songs between 1996’s Britpop glory and 2025’s digital future. Led by surviving members David “Golly God” Marsden and Aaron “Ron Nasty” Downing, the project resurrects songs that were lost with their hero and frontman, Piers “Charlie Pepper” Wildman, through an advanced AI reconstruction process that brings a life once thought gone back to life.
When “Crazy Over You” opens the album with a Bond-esque anthem disguised as a hook for poignant reflections on the tragedy of heroin addiction, Hovercraft proves they haven't lost the capacity to put their darkness into art.
“(Come On) Children,” an homage to suicide awareness, faces tragedy with a rare embrace of tender intimacy, while "Revolution" transitions away from anger, into compassion, which strikes to the heart of their undying sense of love as revolution. The album closes with "The Promised Land," a reflective, shimmering statement of faith, weighing eulogy to living in hope.
Shaken Not Stirred is not just an album; it is a work of musical archaeology. Built from old tapes that are fading, memory, and AI even, Hovercraft fashion a record that pays homage to the past while heading towards the future. It is a bold, sincere experiment that demonstrates that technology is capable of resurrecting not just sound, but soul.
