Violet Love Takes on Pain and Truth on Destined to Fail

Grand Rapids-based artist Violet Love is pouring their heart out on Destined to Fail, a three-track EP that speaks directly to trauma, self-reflection, and the tenuous state of being human. Written, recorded, and mixed in the intimacy of their bedroom, it expresses the immediacy of the DIY punk ethos, while also capturing the fragility of confessional songwriting.

Each song is like a page out of a diary set in music, unrefined, restless, and brutally honest. Instead of searching for the perfect take, Violet Love embraces all imperfections, letting the cracks in the production be used to examine a window into the heart of the project. There is a weight to the words that is haunting and comes from years of truly living in bands from the punk and indie-folk world across the country, minding their own business in Las Vegas, and eventually moving to Arizona. But on Destined to Fail, all of these influences bleed together to some personal version, but relating to everyone listening.

What really makes this EP stand out above others is that it holds no punches. Violet Love does not present clear answers with neat narratives, but Violet Love gives you truth. The title itself can be interpreted as a sort of thesis that failed experiences are inevitable, whether personal or collective, but through honesty and authenticity seen from a distance, add a dogged effort to turn despair into connection.

Violet Love, a proud queer Latin American artist, embodies resiliency in her art. Destined to Fail acts as both a catharsis for the artist and an invitation to the listener to confront their own scars, all the while offering comfort through shared vulnerability.
