Ava Valianti Discovers Strength in Stillness with "Running on Empty": A Composed and Heartfelt Reflection on Coming of Age.

With her newest release, "Running on Empty," from her debut EP, Petunias, sixteen-year-old singer-songwriter Ava Valianti continues to demonstrate how emotional honesty of any kind knows no age limits. "Running on Empty" tones the record and serves as a tearful, revealing late-night epiphany, drawing on a dreamy indie-pop palette that is both complex and gentle, mirroring the artist's own talents.

"Running on Empty" speaks to the changes in a New York hotel room after a pair of shows, a type of regret in the awareness that a person is leaving not in an explosive or confrontational way, but in a deliberate, measured silence to distance. Ava's lyrics ring close, yet vast and spectacular, and the ease of her near-fragile vocal is a pair of experience and youth. The song, vulnerable yet charged, illustrates emotional exhaustion in the low register of a heart still seeking its own rhythm after someone else has departed.

What distinguishes Ava's art from so many is the ability to turn everyday situations of teenagers into something that resonates with all of us. She doesn't pursue perfection; she pursues honesty.
