Bullet To The Heart’s album “Echoes: The Final Chapter”: A Fierce, Unfiltered Farewell Etched in Grief and Fire.

“Echoes: The Final Chapter” is more like a farewell than an album. It’s a short but powerful final statement from Bullet To The Heart; the tragic, raw sound of bruises and blisters is palpable throughout these eight songs from the Chicago-based band. Audrey Queen, with her incomparable power; Draven DC on drums; and Jake “SIX” LoGiudice on bass, vocals, and guitar make up the line, which, with its noise and violence, yet with its warmth and love, envelops the human kind of truth in its rawness. The album is a grand final leave-taking that shuns refinement to embrace the raw, inhumanly truthful, and stark facts of life.

The record might have been influenced by the deeply emotional Dayseeker, the dark, dramatic Evanescence, and the heaviness of Spiritbox's contemporary style. It nevertheless carries the personal sting of the band's identity, which cannot be confused with any other band. The lyrics were penned during a sorrowful experience, severances from the past, and an existential reckoning. The darkness is what the album deals with, instead of running away from it. Audrey sums it up very simply: "No one gets out alive."

Some might say the album is haunted by the spirits of the studio, given that the recording venue, The Broken Barrel, is located in Yorkville, IL, a place well known for its haunted and eerie relics. The album tries to reflect this spooky atmosphere. It was decided that the vocal performances should be recorded in as few takes as possible to keep the intensity alive. In contrast, the guitar work was kept raw, and the album as a whole was allowed to be less than perfect because more truth and more honesty existed in less-than-ideal art.

For sure, tracks like “Dreamscape” and “Giving Up(Is Giving In…)” are the tracks that one immediately thinks of when coming to this kind of music. Each one opens a door leading to loss to enter, and it does so in its unchallenged, unguarded form, something most bands may dare but these guys certainly wouldn't.

The listener is given the chance to hear each of these states fight, exhaustion, and surrender here, sometimes just seconds apart, continuing into one another. We're not talking about storytelling; we're talking about testimony. Pretty much, "Echoes: The Final Chapter" is a farewell that is explicated through one's own bones and blood. It is a brand that would not only be indelibly remembered as a trend ever changing, but also as a conjunction of like-minded artists and brothers in the creative struggle who lived and ended their odyssey in their own way, on their own terms.
