Drew Mason Faces Grief and Renewal with Poignant Precision on His New Single “Always On My Mind”
Portsmouth singer-songwriter Drew Mason delivers a quietly devastating yet deeply hopeful release in “Always On My Mind,” a track that pulls far beyond the bounds of a traditional love song. Though the title may nod toward the Elvis Presley classic, Mason’s take is rooted in far more personal terrain: grief, reflection, and the long-delayed emotional unpacking of family tragedy.
Under his new creative moniker, Mason (known offstage as long-standing Hampshire musician Andy Osman) finally confronts experiences he avoided for decades: the loss of his brother and mother. Instead of erupting in anger as he once did, he now translates those tangled emotions into a piece of songwriting that is restrained, melodic, and quietly cathartic. The track captures the ache of memory, the disorientation of unresolved grief, and the hesitant pull toward a brighter horizon.
Produced in collaboration with Portsmouth producer Sam Carter-Brazier, “Always On My Mind” layers thoughtful guitar work, grounded basslines, and atmospheric touches that elevate Mason’s distinct vocal tone. His influences, particularly Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, shine through not as imitation, but in the ambition to push rock-forward songwriting into more cinematic, emotionally textured territory.
What makes the single truly compelling is its duality: on the surface, it’s soothing and melodic; beneath, it carries years of unspoken weight. Mason doesn’t dramatize his pain; he shapes it into something honest, relatable, and ultimately restorative. “Always On My Mind” stands as both a tribute and a turning point, marking a new chapter where vulnerability becomes his greatest strength.
