Barry KuKes Brings Five Decades of Songwriting Experience to “Songs for Bryan” Album
Barry KuKes steps outside his familiar territory on Songs for Bryan, an eight-song Album embracing dance and EDM while carrying the perspective of a songwriter with more than five decades of experience. The project is interesting because his son Bryan encouraged him to explore contemporary pop for younger audiences.
The transition is not a rejection of KuKes’ past. His experience across big band, classic rock, country, smooth jazz, Christmas music, and dance gives the Album a foundation, making this move into modern pop feel like exploration rather than an attempt to erase his history.
At the centre is a playful song about romantic desire, with a female voice expressing her wish to remain with her lover throughout the night. The premise is direct, matching dance music’s emphasis on immediacy. KuKes handles the drums and lyrics while writing and composing the material, keeping the creative core connected to his experience.
The production process is revealing. Working from his Port Orange home, KuKes used AI-assisted production, humming melodies into software before editing stems in Audacity. This shows an experienced songwriter willing to learn tools without treating technology as a replacement for creativity. The musical direction begins with him.
Songs for Bryan attain as an experiment in reinvention. KuKes is not pretending to be a newcomer; he is bringing decades of songwriting experience into a contemporary environment. That honesty gives the release its appeal, making the Album less about chasing trends and more about proving that curiosity has no expiration date in music.
