Suzy’s Field Revives Seventies Funk with a Shadowy Twist on “Where Do You Go?”

Suzy’s Field gives Halloween funk a welcome dose of musical personality on “Where Do You Go?”, pairing the warmth of 1970s influences with a darker seasonal concept. The Cork City trio describes their approach as “throwback spooky funk,” and the idea offers a distinctive direction for a band whose musical history stretches back to 2003.

The references to Michael McDonald’s smooth vocal harmonies and Nile Rodgers’ rhythmic guitar style establish the creative territory behind the single. These are substantial influences, and they come with expectations: soulful vocal character, infectious rhythmic movement and a strong sense of groove. The challenge is making those familiar ingredients serve a fresh identity. Suzy’s Field have chosen an interesting framework by placing that nostalgic vocabulary within a Halloween setting, giving the track a recognisable mood without relying solely on seasonal novelty.

The recording process also reflects the brothers’ longstanding musical connection. In February 2026, they stayed together at Migration Studios, a converted farm and residential recording facility in Gloucestershire, where they recorded six tracks. Additional overdubs and mixing took place in their home studios. That combination of shared creative time and independent finishing work gives the project a clear sense of personal involvement.

The trio’s two decades of releasing music provide valuable perspective, although experience alone does not guarantee innovation. The real test is whether their vintage references develop into a sound that feels genuinely their own. “Where Do You Go?” presents a promising answer through its unusual blend of funk nostalgia and spooky atmosphere.

With further music emerging from the Migration sessions and Jersey performances planned for autumn 2027, Suzy’s Field have reason to keep moving forward. This single offers a playful, distinctive return that respects its influences while pursuing its own seasonal character.
