SDANTE’s “Your Smile Got Me”: A Melancholic Pop Rock Gem from Rouen

Norman artist SDANTE from Rouen, France, has just released "Your Smile Got Me", a tune that is colorful and busy, yet emotional enough to reflect the ups and downs of a lost romance. SDANTE combines electro textures with funky and catchy riffs and melodies and colourful production for a pop-rock style, bridged with the rhythms and performance aspects of artists from England, such as The Wombats, Fyfe, and The Kooks, so his full-length release will definitely have danceable moments.

The song is compelling because of its emotional honesty. SDANTE speaks from the heart with lyrics that speak about the instability of a relationship in your youth, but also the lessons that are bittersweet as we grow up.

The bright guitar sonics seem to carry a nostalgic quality woven within the layers of richly produced electronic vocals, synths, and FX, while the melodic guitar lines and rhythms move the band in a drivable, if not frantic pace below SDANTE's soaring and soaring voice. The melancholy stories are developed against happy soundscapes, creating a uniqueness to the listener, and the effect of wanting to move and dance while experiencing internal reflection is captivating.

Coming from a base of rock music fueled by his guitar, and later a musical obsession after finding electronic music, SDANTE has developed a great sense of musical sounds and styles, both in and out of a studio. “Your Smile Got Me” is a great example of his goal: music that combines personal vulnerability, while packaged with a high-energy sound that travels beyond the shores of France.
