The “Ruined” EP from Makanduk: An Energetic Groove-Centric EP with Imagination

Australia-based producer Makanduk makes an impression with the EP Ruined, a three-track EP that combines underground club energy with cinematic imagination. Ruined was made between two homes: Sydney and Germany, causing the record to imbue a sense of both nostalgia and reinvention, representational of Makanduk’s self-learning processes and continuous curiosity about (sonic) identity.

The EP opens with “Crazy”, a hypnotic groove aimed directly at pulling bodies into the dance floor pulse. The track is textured, playful, and most importantly, bouncy in the kind of way that feels alive. Following is “Reason”, with a deeper, dirtier bassline that truly embodies its “filthy bass face” reputation. The track features gritty synths and tight production, along with nods to the previous influences of Chris Lake and X Club. Makanduk closes with “Reason”, and here we find the producer emulated in darker melodic spaces and exploring tension and release with superior cinematic direction. As a listener, it feels like a score to a nonexistent sci-fi film where the onscreen bodies are full of energy, struggle, and momentum.

Completely recorded in his simplified home setup, Ruined is a reflection of the freedom of creation and belief in oneself. Makanduk is not just someone making tracks; he is constructing worlds.

The sound design, motion of songs, and emotional layering of this EP convey an artist who is furthering his evolution, experimentation, and trust in his instinct.
